Non-Visual Interfaces for Wearable Computers
نویسنده
چکیده
INTRODUCTION As computing devices drop in size and rise in power/bandwidth, novel interface techniques are needed to keep pace. Interfaces which rely on screens and keyboards/handwriting are not always effective in mobile computing scenarios. Visual displays are wasted on eyes engaged in navigational tasks such as walking or driving. Similarly, keyboards and handwriting-based interfaces are difficult to use whilst the arms and hands are involved in realworld tasks (including posture control). Furthermore, these input techniques typically require a dedicated visual resource in the interaction loop.

Human computer interfaces for wearable computers: a systematic approach to development and evaluation
Over the last decades desktop computers for professional and consumer applications have become a quasi standard, both in owning them and being able to use them for various applications. Recent years are, however, dominated by a new trend in computing: The mobile use of computers. The research presented in this thesis examines user interfaces for wearable computers. Wearable computers are a spec...
متن کاملA Toolkit for Context-aware User Interface Development for Wearable Computers
This paper proposes the design and implementation of a toolkit for creating wearable user interfaces with reusable components. The toolkit is based on a model-driven approach that builds on an abstract model of the required user interface for an application. By using available context information of a wearable system, the toolkit supports context-aware user interfaces that adapt themselves.
متن کاملDevice Independent User Interface Description for Wearable Computers
This report discusses the aspect of user interfaces on wearable computers. Today wearable computers can be of very different size and capabilities. The way of communicating with the user also varies for different devices. This paper looks into several different approaches of describing a user interface that is independent of the underlying device and architecture.
متن کاملChapter Wearable Computers
Computers have become a primary tool for office workers, allowing them to access the information they need to perform their jobs; however, accessing information is more difficult for more mobile users. With current computer interfaces, the user must focus both physically and mentally on the computing device instead of the environs. In a mobile environment, such interfaces may interfere with the...
متن کاملMobile Mixed Reality Conferencing
We present two examples of interfaces for Mobile Mixed Reality Conferencing. The WearCom interface surrounds the user with a wearable body-stabilized communications space, while the Tangible Conferencing interface represents remote collaborators are live virtual video images attached to real objects. Both interfaces run on commercially available wearable computers, and they demonstrate how Mixe...
